An engraving from a Victorian children's book, and an old photo of Egypt.
As children the McCartney twins tortured beetles. Now they spend eternity hunted by giant cockchafers.
Images from a 1930s children's encyclopedia , a 1930s French Magazine and 1930s-40s Hungarian money.
Images from a 1930s children's encyclopedia and 1930s Hungarian money- a way of life that has (probably) disappeared.
"The huge iguanodon might reappear in the woods, and the ichthyosaur in the sea, while the pterodactyle might flit again through umbrageous groves of tree-ferns"
Charles Lyell, Principles of Geology, 1833, explaining his cyclical view of geological history. Later on in life, as the fossil record became more and more clearly established, he dropped this theory. But it lingers on in the mind.

This is what Victorian children imagined a Hippopotamus looked like. About 1860. There's a rhyme under the picture. Ahem [clears throat and recites]:
"Steed of the mazy sedgy stream,
That flows through Egypt's sands,
Like some grim phantom of a dream
Thy form colossal stands."

Travelling in style in a more elegant age. Computer-done 'collage' from old magazines and a book.
