TEOTIHUACÁN

Teotihuacán is a former pre-Columbian city about 30 miles northeast of Mexico City, containing the well-known pyramids (with the Pirámide del Sol built around 100 AD). The city may have contained as many as 200,000 people at one point! The elevation here is about the same as Mexico City--around 7300'.

Pirámide del Sol...

The smaller Templo de Quetzalcóatl...

View to south from the top of el Pirámide del Sol...

Zooming in on the town to the south...

Looking down on a native tree-yucca (Yucca filifera) there from the top of el Pirámide del Sol...

Steep steps that one must climb to reach the top of el Pirámide del Sol (there are 247 steps...including some this steep!)...

A guy at the top with a vulgar t-shirt!

Looking down at part of the original city of Teotihuacán...

Looking down at the Plaza del Sol (from el Pirámide del Sol)...

Looking to the northwest towards a nearby mountain (and one of the most common trees, the "California" pepper tree, native not to California or Mexico, but parts of Peru with a similar climate to central Mexico)...

Vegetation around the area (including prickly-pear (Opuntia) cacti)...

2 native Agave salmaniana at Teotihuacán...

The stone used most frequently at Teotihuacán...

And finally...a mix shot...
